Summary

From a leading voice on recovering from toxic relationships, a deeply insightful guide to getting back to your "old self" again--in order to truly heal and move on。

Jackson MacKenzie has helped millions of people in their struggle to understand the experience of toxic relationships。 His first book, Psychopath Free, explained how to identify and survive the immediate situation。 In this highly anticipated new book, he guides readers on what to do next--how to fully heal from abuse in order to find love and acceptance for the self and others。

Through his close work with--and deep connection to--thousands of survivors of abusive relationships Jackson discovered that most survivors have symptoms of trauma long after the relationship is over。 These range from feelings of numbness and emptiness to depression, perfectionism, substance abuse, and many more。 But he's also found that it is possible to work through these symptoms and find love on the other side, and this book shows how。 Through a practice of mindfulness, introspection, and exercises using specific tools, readers learn to identify the protective self they've developed - and uncover the core self, so that they can finally move on to live a full and authentic life--to once again feel light, free, and whole, and ready to love again。

This book addresses and provides crucial guidance on topics and conditions like: complex PTSD, Narcissistic abuse, Avoidant Personality Disorder, Codependency, Core wounding, toxic shame, Borderline Personality Disorder, and so many more。

Whole Again offers hope and multiple strategies to anyone who has survived a toxic relationship, as well as anyone suffering the effects of a breakup involving lying, cheating and other forms of abuse--to release old wounds and safely let the love back inside where it belongs。

Caveat emptor this was not written by a psychologist or therapist。 But this is the best book I’ve read on the subject of recovery from trauma。 I’ve been looking for something like this for a while。 It’s the first I’ve read that talks to people who were traumatized as adults from a passing situation/relationship。 Most resources only talk to those with codependency issues or childhood trauma and being “subconsciously attracted to” instability。 They talk about how to not feel or do those things so Caveat emptor this was not written by a psychologist or therapist。 But this is the best book I’ve read on the subject of recovery from trauma。 I’ve been looking for something like this for a while。 It’s the first I’ve read that talks to people who were traumatized as adults from a passing situation/relationship。 Most resources only talk to those with codependency issues or childhood trauma and being “subconsciously attracted to” instability。 They talk about how to not feel or do those things so if you already don’t, you’re stuck in a no man’s land。 He hits the nail on the head about “empaths” and recovery lifestylers and offers direct, actionable, solutions oriented advice and guidance you can start right now。 Insightful and helpful if you’re actually looking to clean house。 。。。more

This is the perfect book to read once you have inundated yourself on information about cluster-B personality disorders。 Anyone who has been abused by someone like tends to go through a period of time where you are obsessively learning about the twisted mind of the person who hurt you。 You really want to make sure you are never hurt like that again。 This book helps you put the focus back on yourself。 This is the only book I have ever read that actually helped me understand why I feel/felt a numbn This is the perfect book to read once you have inundated yourself on information about cluster-B personality disorders。 Anyone who has been abused by someone like tends to go through a period of time where you are obsessively learning about the twisted mind of the person who hurt you。 You really want to make sure you are never hurt like that again。 This book helps you put the focus back on yourself。 This is the only book I have ever read that actually helped me understand why I feel/felt a numbness after entering my personal healing journey。 It’s the only book that helped me learn how to truly address toxic shame。 This is a must read! 。。。more

I wish this book had gotten a little more specific on some of the methods used for healing, but it was an extremely validating read。 If you’ve been in a toxic relationship, give this book a try。

Isabella Cristian

Very practical, easy to read。 I am yet to try the methods described but they make a lot of sense。

Book starts off quite rocky in my opinion, sounded like a psychological guide rather than a book。 Maybe that’s just me nitpicking and projecting the style of books I enjoy reading。 Must admit I skipped through to the end, the healing part And wow am I blown away。 It makes sense as the author intends to take you towards the journey and for someone fresh off a breakup I guess it’s needed For myself however, I’m like 90% healed, just really needed that final nugget that pushes me towards the end li Book starts off quite rocky in my opinion, sounded like a psychological guide rather than a book。 Maybe that’s just me nitpicking and projecting the style of books I enjoy reading。 Must admit I skipped through to the end, the healing part And wow am I blown away。 It makes sense as the author intends to take you towards the journey and for someone fresh off a breakup I guess it’s needed For myself however, I’m like 90% healed, just really needed that final nugget that pushes me towards the end line。 But towards the end implements the most profound and valuable lesson I’ve had all year。 That end part and introducing nonduality has been the most impactful thing。 One thing I love is that not only did u get the lesson, but he gave you daily steps you can take。 I will absolutely recommend this book to anyone。 。。。more

This book contains a ton of useful nuggets of info。 There’s great insight & helpful advice & I think it would be a great starting point if you’re seeking a journey towards healing。 However, the author doesn’t have any background in treating personality disorders or CPTSD & some of the information is incorrect。 Personality disorders can’t just be turned off with a choice, they require professional treatment, therapy, and many times medication。 And I was diagnosed with CPTSD & the symptomatology v This book contains a ton of useful nuggets of info。 There’s great insight & helpful advice & I think it would be a great starting point if you’re seeking a journey towards healing。 However, the author doesn’t have any background in treating personality disorders or CPTSD & some of the information is incorrect。 Personality disorders can’t just be turned off with a choice, they require professional treatment, therapy, and many times medication。 And I was diagnosed with CPTSD & the symptomatology varies depending on the abuse you suffered (the author says CPTSD doesn’t present as symptoms of BPD or narcissism but it actually can)。 If you’re interested in books that are in depth & scientifically sound in regards to trauma, abusive relationships, and/or parent wounds please check out: Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving by Pete WalkerThe Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents (and the sequels) by Lindsay C。 Gibson and The Drama of the Gifted Child by Alice Miller 。。。more

Absolutely incredible。 MacKenzie has completely changed my perspective on healing through my trauma and I am so grateful for it。 Please, read it。 It is good for you。That being said, I feel like some points were repeated too many times, however that does not affect its score because to me, the content at large is worth rereading again and again。 It is so amazingly thorough。 I felt like I was no longer an alien。 If you have been through a traumatic relationship and don't know where to start, start Absolutely incredible。 MacKenzie has completely changed my perspective on healing through my trauma and I am so grateful for it。 Please, read it。 It is good for you。That being said, I feel like some points were repeated too many times, however that does not affect its score because to me, the content at large is worth rereading again and again。 It is so amazingly thorough。 I felt like I was no longer an alien。 If you have been through a traumatic relationship and don't know where to start, start here。MacKenzie gives specific examples of behavior that results from emotional abuse and how it benefits no one in the end。 I needed that loving kick in the pants。 You do, too。Be well and read this book。 Then read it again。Make sure you buy your own copy because you'll want to have a highlighter ready。 。。。more

Book was exactly what I needed in my healing process and self growth。 The wound wasn’t so fresh so I think this book helped in my reflection back on past relationships。 The idea of the “protective self” is one that will stay with me and am working on recognizing my own。 This gave me a lot of validation as well in that it wasn’t abnormal to struggle this much in getting over a toxic relationship。

Compassionately written for those healing from emotional abuse。 Practise mindfulness and forgive to reconnect with yourself again。

For the past few years, I’ve been caught up in toxic friendships and my life a seemingly never ending drama。 This book shows us the unhealthy self preservation methods we use in the aftermath of emotional abuse and how to heal。 After reading this, I feel like I have a guide and a toolkit to finally live with unconditional love for myself, to place boundaries, and live a more mindful life。
